The video installation “The Broken Pitcher” centers on an episode that played out in Cyprus in 2019: at a bank branch in Larnaca, a family tries to negotiate an alternative to the imminent foreclosure on their home. The discussion’s outcome remains open, but there appears to be scant hope for the family. A speculative reconstruction of the bank room, based on the memory logs of the family, serves as a set for the conversation. The second part of the video has various interviewees responding to the reenactment: Housing activists from Cyprus, Spain, Germany, and Lebanon, people who have faced similar challenges, as well as economists, and artists. The project questions how the financial system works and how we can intervene into it.
