Calls for applications are usually made annually, often under one main topic. Unsolicited applications are also possible.

The cultural department decides on the selection up to a budget of 15,000 euros. The program advisory board judges artistic designs with a volume of 15,000 to 50,000 euros. The city council decides on projects over 50,000 euros on the recommendation of the program advisory board.

Currently no new unsolicited applications are possible for the billboard at Lenbachplatz.

A number of projects with thematic brackets are advertised every year. Five to six projects will be selected with a budget of up to 15,000 euros each. Artists residing in the Munich S-Bahn area can apply.

For the segment of larger international and local individual projects with a project volume of up to 150,000 euros, applications from all artists are possible all year round, which are then submitted to the delegate committee (15,000 – 50,000 euros) or the program advisory board for art in public space (from 50,000 euros).

In addition to this possibility, the large international projects are also advertised in invited competitions organized by the program advisory board.

The format of the “carte blanche” is only decided by the program advisory board, it is not possible to apply on your own initiative.

The international major project in public space usually takes place every five years. The international curation is awarded by the program advisory board. It is not possible to apply on your own initiative.

The different formats of the culture of remembrance in public space are developed in separate procedures in cooperation with the Institute for Urban History and Remembrance Culture.

FAQs

The cultural department provides financial support, professional advice and communication as part of the overall Public Art München concept. The artists are responsible for the project (liability, production, organization) and for obtaining all necessary permits and insurance.
