In Andreas Bärnthaler’s work, bright, overlapping colours, shapes and structures are interwoven to form a hypothetical map of the distant future.

Andreas Bärnthaler’s work “Space Invasions / xerox, zrinc” refers in the broadest sense to an urban image with infrastructure seen from above. Templates, outlines, geometry and bursts of colour overlap with centres of energy, which are subject to constant and even simultaneous changes and movements. Schematic structures, fragments and forms both positive and negative, defined or just hinted at, allow an abolition of time to be assumed without beginning or end.

The views could also be the construction of an apparition from the distant future. A need to create new worlds can be assumed, with a hypothetical map, without perfection and with an impression of human geography that is out of control and which transgresses traditional borders, subjective and chaotic.

Andreas Bärnthaler, born in 1967 in Munich, lives and works in Munich.
