Mash & Heal. Leave Your Comfort Zone! Who Does Space for Parking Belong To?

Discussion as part of the art installation of the same name by Folke Köbberling

On 26 September, artist Folke Köbberling will open her installation “Mash & Heal” in Munich’s urban space. For the art installation, she is placing three full-size replica SUVs in prominent locations in the city centre of Germany’s most heavily sealed city. The sculptures are made from compostable, renewable raw materials such as wool, wood, earth, seeds and clay. They will transform over the 12-month installation period and will be accompanied by a procession in October 2025, reminiscent of Bavarian Good Friday or Corpus Christi processions, to a desealed area.
On 27 September, Folke Köbberling will be inviting Prof. Vanessa Carlow (TU Braunschweig), author Henriette Kuhrt, Lars Mentrup (Munich city councillor) and Prof. Luise Rellensmann (Munich University of Applied Sciences) to the “VerhandelBar” to discuss the topics of mobility, the growing space requirements of cars (especially SUVs) and the question of who owns public space in a variety of ways. Admission is free.

“Mash & Heal” is taking place as part of the Public Art Munich art competition in the SOLO segment – as is the project “VerhandelBar – Unter Einschluss der Öffentlichkeit”, which is being carried out by ARCH+ in cooperation with the initiative JustizzentrumErhalten/ AbbrechenAbbrechen and the collective PointOfNoReturn.
