Between May and July 2018, the Kunst-Insel at Lenbachplatz acts as a preview venue for an underwater opera staged by Alexander Kluge in collaboration with Sarah Morris.

In this underwater opera, revolution, sea monsters and love are exposed to the elemental forces of water. The two billboard motifs refer to the opera’s content: In her children’s drawing from 1972, Sarah Morris shows herself riding a monster as if across Loch Ness. Alexander Kluge, on the other hand, chooses a still from his 2018 film “Angriff auf eine dicke Tür aus Glas” (“Attack on a Thick Door of Glass”).

With the theme of revolution as abrupt social upheaval, the two tied in with a central motif of the festival Public Art Munich 2018, in the context of which the project took place and which was held under the motto “Game Changers”.

Alexander Kluge, born 1932 in Halberstadt, lives and works in Munich. Sarah Morris, born 1967 in Sevenoaks, UK, lives and works in New York and London.
