“Queere Wege” (Queer Paths) is a collective walk through Munich’s Glockenbach district, bringing queer history to life in public spaces. For many, the metropolis appears to be a place where queer life can be lived freely – yet at the same time, its queer past often remains invisible: from the legendary club culture of the 1980s, colorful personalities of the community, and hard-won rights to the harshness of the AIDS pandemic and political repression to the ongoing loss of safer spaces.
Participants follow the gay guide Anian, who leads them to places of queer life, activism, and resistance. The urban space becomes both an open archive and a stage. At selected stations, Munich drag artists embody historical figures and perform with lip sync, spoken word, and dance. They bring stories of persecution and solidarity, of self-empowerment, friendship, and celebration culture to life. Drag becomes a political body in public space.
Between entertainment and knowledge transfer, a collective walk emerges that brings together the community and interested parties. “Queer Paths” invites you to rediscover Munich’s queer past, present, and future and to preserve the traces of those who lived, loved, fought, and celebrated here.
